Default ICM, coilpack, or sparkplug?

On my way home from work today my car would misfire around 2800rpm if I stepped on the gas hard but no CEL. I took it to a friend and checked it with a VAG-COM and no fault codes right away, but finally got a few (see below)when I finally threw a CEL. I am not sure what my problem could be...I replaced all 4 spark plugs and the coilpack on cylinder 3 roughly 3 or 4 weeks ago. The first time I had this problem, it went away after putting in new spark plugs. But then it came back about 2 days later so I changed the coilpack on cylinder 3 since I had my car checked and I knew where it was misfiring. After the new coilpack, CEL went away and everything was fine for the past few weeks. Now I am back to square one. Anyone have any ideas based on these codes? Thanks in advance...any help is greatly appreciated.

Default What year is your A4?

They stopped using ICM with the AEB 1.8T...so if your a 99.5 and older it may possibly be the ICM.

Check the torque on the plugs, i've seen plugs that are to lose misfire, ie no/bad ground

Have you checked the ICU (ignition control unit). I had a similar problem and it was the ICU. I replaced it with a OEM replacement which cost me $128 (no tax or shipping) and car is running fine. Thera are a couple of tech notes on this matter. There is also a way to check your ICU (again check tech notes). Replacing the part took me about 5 minutes. Good luck.

Default Where did you find a replacement for $128? Dealer told me it was $380 for a new one...

last time this happened and yes I am aware that you can test it. I made an attempt at it last time but it didn't seem like it was working out very well for me.

Default Do the sparkplug and coilpack rotation

if the misfires dont move...
then the its likely the ICM

When my ICM went it went on cyl 3.
