Default Olympus 450-Zoom (less than $500), lots of nice features

I bought the Olympus 450-Zoom as an everyday digital camera (if you're looking for something more, try the Olympus 2000) to complement my point and shoot, SLR, and medium format film cameras.

I've used a Mavica, but the Olympus is much smaller because it uses a SmartMedia card instead of a floppy. (It's almost as small as my Stylus Epic, which fits in the pocket of my jeans.) The features on the 450-Zoom are far better than the 340R, which doesn't have a zoom lense. Overall picture quality has been good (I've been using the medium to high quality setting). Low-light photos have been pretty good so far. You can turn off the LCD to preserve battery power. I also bought an additional SmartMedia card (32 MB) and the PCMCIA-to-SmartMedia adapter.

It's priced at $500, but I bought one for $370 including shipping at onvia.com a few weeks ago. Check www.20-20consumer.com for pricing.

I also recommend the LowePro Dig-Res 10 camera case (you can find it at cameraworld.com for $15 including shipping). It's very small/lightweight but has a waterproof cover built in and good pockets for SmartMedia cards, etc.
