Info on inexpensive OBD2 scanner/code reset tool...more

Generic OBD2 code scanner and reset tool availible from JC Whitney (Mail order), claims to work with domestic and imported vehicles, on sale (-$20) for $159.99, plus shipping/handling, stock # 81LG7745N, sale catalog # 106J, (312) 431 6102.

I have not bought it, but I think it should work for the ISO OBD2 interface that Audi uses (European ISO standard for OBD2 interface)

I can tell you the OBDII cable I have with my VWTool works in Honda's too.....

so I know Audi uses the same standard as Honda/Acura.

Unfortunately....

This type of scan tool won't do a lot of the functions that Audi owners would like it to do. It won't reset your oil/service lights, won't change your central locking or other codes, etc. The generic scanners only do the OBDII engine and emission control functions that are common among all cars, or are programmed into the tool. The are useful for that, of course. They won't interface with the other computer modules, such as alarm, locking, auto. transmission, instrument panel, climate control, etc. These are Audi/VW-specific. There ARE software programs around that WILL do these things, however. (In addition to the expensive VW/Audi scan tools).
