It's pretty much a generic scanner and not Audi Specific.
A better choice for a small scanner/code clearer would be the Audi specific Geniuscan 200 talked about here before..(Bout $60)

and a lot less hassle than a Vag for basic readings and code clearing..

What are the benefits of VAG-COM over this? More control?

Default No benefits....(and no substitute)......>>

There is no substitute for a VAG. If you want a portable Code reader that will provide basic diagnostic codes and the ability to clear them this is good. Great to travel with as an adjunct to a VAG COM for serious work..
