Default Intercooler Upgrade

A friend of mine just sold me a used greddy roughly 24 inch for real cheap. Any way before I go ripping my front end off to plumb the damn thing, what should I know about software etc. I will be going with an upgraded turbo before to long. This is some forethought. Thanks for any and all comments.

Default You should know that it won't work w/o software changes ;-(

All of the FMIC's require software work on the 00+ cars. If you leave the OEM piece in place and hook them up in series then you may not have this problem...

Default Well it MIGHT work...

I've heard some other makes of FMIC's which are meant to be series connected who claim it will work just fine like that. I don't know if you're aware but APR has plans to release a really nice FMIC for like <$1000 and they will do the software to go with it.

James R.

Default What I've been told was....

The pressure drop is less than stock, so it wouldn't require a software change. The problem is the "new" boost sender at the outlet side of the stock IC. If it reads a pressure drop more that it's calculating for, then it assumes there is a leak, and falls into limp mode. Swapping out a FMIC won't necessarily require new software unless it causes a drop more than stock. It must also have a bung to accommodate the sender unit. This also applies to the 2000MY.

Default I've done the whole chips and K04 thing before...this time I think I'm just going to skip to the big

turbo kit bypassing all that other crap. I know how the chips and K04 perform and I know it won't be enough for me...so I'm holding off till I can afford the whole package. In the mean time my car is totally set up for the added power ;-)
