Default Just bled the brakes tonight after going to Road America earlier this week and...

I was shocked to see the amount of air that I got out of the rear brakes! I take a 2' length of 3/16" diameter clear hose and put it on the bleeder valve when I bleed the brakes. I bled the rear calipers several times, then lightly tapped the caliper with a rubber mallet, and that is when the air really started to come out! That hose had a big air bubble in it that was about 2" long! I just bled the brakes last weekend before I went to Road America. I got a very very very small amount of air out of the fronts, if any at all. BTW I am using the Ford Motorcraft fluid(550 boiling point), and never completely lost the brakes, just had to push more/harder.
Did this air come from the heat generated at RA or did tapping with the mallet make the bubbles on the caliper wall rise? I was expecting air from the front since they get hotter and do most of the braking, but not like this from the rears. My pedal now is very firm and grabs well, but the harder I push the farther down it goes. Never gets rock hard like the american cars
BTW, I have a 2001 A4 1.8tqms, about 13K on the clock.

Default Dude! Exactly what happened to me...

I boiled my fluid at a driving school. I have flushed about 2.5 liters of brake fluid thru the system. Hardly any in the fronts and an insane amount in the rear. Also I did the tapping thing and got a lot more air to come out. I still have air in one of the rear lines, I just got sick of wasting brake fluid. It's really strange that it all seems to settle in the rear.

Default well all you need to do with these is to loosen it a bit, put a hose on it, then pump your brakes

and fluid will squirt out each time (goes into a can). pump until your satisfied, you can go all the way and flush everydrop just keep filling the reservoir.
