Default Just did some "spirited" driving... a little curious (more)

Ok, I was going about 72MPH, 86F, A/C 65F 3/4 power, doing a little back-road blasting. Anyway, when I got home, the oil temp was at around 225 (normally just above 200) and the engine temp (you know H and C)was 2 hash marks above the middle (it is normally right below the middle). I have service in about 1200 miles and my coolant (pink stuff) is right at the MIN mark or a bit above. Should I be at all concerned of what happened during this spirited, yet not exhausting drive?

Default Oil temp normal, but coolant would bother me...

My oil temp fluctuates a bit depending on how 'spirited' my driving is, but I have never under any circumstances had my coolant temp needle go anywhere except straight up and down in the middle (except while warming up of course).

Same here. Coolant temp is odd. Even racing I don't get it to budge. Crap blocking radiator?

Picked up car in november, haven't been in real hot weather. I still don't think it's normal.

Default Sounds like you might have a bad coolant temp sensor...it's at the back of the head

at the top...it's easy to change...it usually has a blue cap or connector on it. Check to make sure the connector is tight. Does the temp ever come up during normal driving? If not the sensor is bad for sure...or the cluster is bad, you can tell if it's really cold or really hot by running the heater full blast...if you can't get hot air out then the coolant is cold...otherwise if it is hot there's something wrong with the sensor or the cluster.

The ECU uses that temp figure so the car will start to run funny after a while...the idle warm up procedure could act funny etc...have it checked out.

Default Sorry confused your problem with another one...this still applies...

I figured your temp was running low cause you said one tick above min...I didn't notice you were talking about the coolant physically in the expansion tank.

Above center is certainly above normal...you shoudl do the same drive again but read the temp off of the climate control and get back to us...center on the display should be something like 90 something degrees Centigrade...see if it just looks high on the analog gauge or if it's really actually that high on the digital read out in the climate control. Look at the FAQ for a how to on the climate panel.
