Default Just installed Mintex Red Boxes today...break-in Q

No real-world experience yet, the car is still in the shop...I'm having them look at a noise problem I have in teh morning when I first start up.
I wanted to ask about proper break in of these pads. Anyone with info, please respond.
Thanks!

Default This is what I did....

I was told to accelerate to 40 mph, then get on the brakes firmly but not the the point on pissing off the ABS, then drive 1/4 mile and repeat, 10 times. It worked, they seated in and have never made a noise since! AND VERY LITTLE BRAKE DUST!

Default This is correct...

then give them about 200 miles or so before they are at their peak performance. I've had reboxes and they were great! I hope to get them on my A4 too.

Default Mine did too at first - here is what I did to fix the squeal..

I took the pads out again, front and rear, and champfered the leading and trailing edges (just like my stock pads were). I also liberally applied Permatex anti squeal spray , that seemed to fix the problem - never had any squeal since. I would imagine if you changed pads and rotors at the same time - there would be no squeal. I think the squeal is caused by vibration from new pads trying to seat to used rotors.

Default Thanks Martin, I 'll give it a try

BTW, I too thought that swapping rotors was the way to go however, with approximately 9000 miles on them the looked like new, so I was told swap was mot required.

Thanks again,

peter
