just installed the strat ss......
so far its been fun..... not as smooth as the stock shifter..... but i'll get used to it.... a nice compliment to my new x-chip i got installed last week (thanks to QuattroRocket)
Install took about 2 hours followng Paul_858's faq..... if i were to do it again it would definitely be much much faster..... pulling out the shifter mechanism and putting it back in was a PITA.
one thing to add to the tools list.....
my bro (he's a mechanic) had a set of picks (sorta like what the dentist uses) which came in handy with lifting/pushing stuff around the tight space in the gear box...... and made spacer install so easy.... it was like we were operating.
anyways..... just my 2 cents.....

funny you should mention those tools...
my grandfather was a dentist, and I found that a lot of his old dentistry tools come in handy when working on the car (including installing my SS).

:-) I equated the SS install to the game Operation!
I used a magnetic pick up tool to fish the spacers in place one at a time. If I didn't do it just right, the spacer would drop, get stuck to something (because it's now magnetized), or roll around the head of the pick up tool so it's in the wrong direction by the time I fish it down there. No question, steady hands are a plus!

Re: just installed the strat ss......
I'm also thinking of getting the Strat.
Is it close to stock height? I heard there's not much difference.
When you say not as smooth..more effort to move into gear or ....??
Thanks
