Default K&N Air filter upgrade worth it??

Hi Folks,

Heard a lot about the K&N filters...many people on this forum believe that the K&N filter makes a difference in performance. My 99 2.8Q A4 needs a new air filter, so before I replace it I'd like to know if installing a K&N filter will make a noticable performance difference? I probably can't go wrong either way given the low price of the K&N, but what should I look for in potential performance change?

Thanks in advance.

AQM

Default Not much, but worth it. Better potential flow and much better filtration.

Cold air intake will make a noticable difference but not earth shattering.

Default It does seem to breathe a little better at the top end, but be VERY careful with the oil,,,

even on brand new filters. The oil can foul the MAF if it gets on it.

Default Cripser throttle response. Engine's actually a bit louder (IMO). No MAF problems here.

Def worth it.

Default I had K&N in my car for a year.....

washed it and re-oiled it once. Thankfully did not have problems with MAF sensor. I decided to put a stock paper filter in to see if I could feel a difference.

In my experience, there was no difference between K&N and stock. Since it is a PITA to wash, dry and re-oil the K&N, I decided to just stick with stock filter.

Default That's what K&N claims.
