Kicker S baric, or Alpine R sub? Anyone try any of these?
#2
Some thoughts...(long)
The kicker will take a ton more power to move. It has a much heavier cone/ motor structure than the type R. I have both, solo barics in one car and type r's in the other. The type R is a little more musical as even the 8&10" solo barics have trouble with anything over 70 hz. The type R is lighter, therefore it takes less power to push and handles the higher sub-bass/lower mid-bass region more accuratly. The solo will hit harder on the low notes, the type R is more musical. Also the type r's are dvc subs, where does your amp deliver it's power? 4 ohms mono, 2 ohms mono or 1 ohm mono. You can also get the kickers in 4 or 8 ohm and the alpine in dual 4 or dual 2 ohm. What amp are you thinking of using?

Already have the amp. Alpine V12 (357) with 30 RMS/c +100sub. I have mcintosh component speakers.
I installed everything today and it sounds really nice. Extremely clean sound with great midrange. The only problem is that I need bass. HOwever, I do not want sloppy bass, I would rather not have a sub in such case.
I also do not know what is the best way to enclose and where in an A4. Any suggestions would be nice.

We used to sell that amp...
I am a manager at a large mobile electronics retailer(remaining anonymous, not to raise an issue). The sub channel on that amp is no where near enough power for either of those subs. You would need a ported/slotted/vented or some form of bandpass enclosure with an entry level to mid level sub. 100 watts is nothing nowadays in the world of automotive subwoofers. Even 400 watts is nothing any more. All the high end subs take at least 300 watts RMS power (type r 10") to 450 watts RMS power (solobaric 10") to run properly with out burning up the voice coil from distortion. The sub channel on that amp is 100 watts RMS at close to 1% distortion. It is really not even worth using unless you get something like a tube or vented box. Tight bass is usually not achievable from either enclosure (the tube is tighter than the vented box though). My advice; add another amp with at least 300 watts RMS power to get acurate and tight bass from a mid to high grade sealed sub box. If you go type r alpine, you will need a mono block or class d amp. These amps put their optimum power into a single channel at 2 ohms. The solo will need a stereo amp that is bridgable to 450 watts RMS by one channel. Hope this helps!
