Default BE THIS KNOWN TO ALL MEN (proposal to kill the point five)

Since ALL A4s built during calendar year 1998 have the updated features (side air bags, red turn signals, blah blah blah listed in FAQ) and since NONE of the so called "98.0" models with the legacy features were actually assembled during calendar year 1998, I propose we drop this silly ".5" ****. The only "98.0" vehicle is technically (and factually) a '97 2.8 30V and should be referred to as such. (Frankly I would be pissed if I bought a '98 model car and later discovered it was built in early '97 or late '96 and didn't have the features of every other car built in 1998.)

After everybody agrees to this I'm going to debadge my car and then try to get a life.

Signed: The car formerly known as '98.5, A4, Avant, 2.8, 30V,FWD,TIP,COLD,CONV,CAC.....ad nauseum.

Default I purchased my car Jan, 2 1998 (Build date N0V 97). I have all of the .5 improvements...

So I think that it's fair to say that, since my car is about as early as you can get for a 1998 model, and it has all of the improvements, then what the Heck is a 98.5? However I've seen a 1998 A4, with "Audi" football logos, and the 1998 Ten spoke Sport rims. I doubt that this lady would go through the trouble of installing "Audi" football logos, So how do you explain that? There are early 98 models that do not have the revisions that are on my car. So how do I differentiate? I know, I'll call mine 1998 Rev2 :-)

What should we do with all of the '01s that are already out there? Demote them to '00?

Default Unfortunately...

It won't be that easy. I have what I call at 1999 model car, though it was built at the end of 1998. So, it does not have the changes that started showing up at dealer lots until later 1999 (what people are calling 1999.5).

My dealer identifies my car as a 1999 model. My registration says it is a 1999 model year. I bought my car in 1999. Audi's brochure says my car is a 1999 (and features so-called 99 not the so-called 99.5 on the brochure).

I don't think many people go to look at the build-date of their cars... so changing to your new terminology won't really get rid of the confusion.

I agree that the ".5" labelling is somewhat silly, but since most people have adopted it.. it will be hard to change. And the benefits of removing them, in my opinon, are not worth the cost of change.

My $0.02 (or maybe I should say my $0.50 :-)
Wayne H.
