LCD and Temp. and seat belt question...
The car: 2000 A4 1.8T AWD
Problems:
1)LCD on dash has lines of pixels that will work one day and then not work the other
2)The temp. that the car displays for outside temp. is off by about 5 or so degrees
3)The seat belt warning light never works
I'm not so worried about them, it just would be nice to find out what to do. Anyone else have these problems? To fix the LCD to I need a new panel(speedo, tach, etc.).
Thanks

1) Gotta replace the instrument cluster. $500-600 part.
2) In front of the AC condensor and radiator, you'll find the metal loop for the power steering cooler. On the top of that loop is a little plastic bracket which holds the ext. temp sensor. Odds are the sensor somehow fell off the power steering loop. Where ever it's sitting, it's exposed to a little more heat, and that's probably why you're reading the slightly higher temp. If the sensor appears to be mounting properly, you can easily unclip it, and replace it with a new one. Shouldn't be too expensive.

what raj says and...
3. i know my seatbelt 'warning' only works when the car is first started, but turns off shortly. it took me almost a year to notice that though, i just always thought it never had a light.

www.car-part.com, for the cluster. you'd have to be nuts to pay 600 bucks just to get the screen....
pretty again, lol. i have the same problem, along with just about everyone else i know with an a4, and it usually starts during the winter.

I'd have a serious issue with throwing a used cluster in there...
you can't adjust the mileage to what it really should be. That may have some implications if/when you turn around to sell the car.
