I don't think so. Then again, I don't have EMCS, so I can't tell you for sure.

No, you do not lose your cruise control. I have the chip for one year now and love it.

So, I wouldn't need a spare ECU w/EMCS?

Default Not unless you want the added security of going back to your stock ECU

You may want the spare ECU if you don't want the hassle of potential warrantee issues with your dealer. Also, if you sell the car, you may want to keep the shipped ECU to sell separately. Keep in mind that, if you swap in the stock ECU for a trip to the dealer, a power-failure fault code will be set that the tech can see if he looks for it. You could explain this by saying that you were doing some work on your stereo or something.

Default To clear that fault code you would need a VAG tool...

Which is more expense. I went the GIAC route with a stock chip module. I can replace the module and then clear the fault code (because I have a VAG tool) for the power-failure fault.

It is all a matter of personal opinion and how bitchy your dealership is about the mod.

So, Get a Spare ECU and VAG tool to clear the codes. Then I'll be invincible!! : )

But the caveat there is that if the Dealer cracks open the ECU, voila... socketed chip... busted.
