Default the life/health of the turbo

reading on greddy.com about their turbo timer, and from James' FAQ, it seems as if everyone would want a turbo timer. I can't say I recall seeing them mentioned in many peoples signatures..

So is this whole issue just over hyped? Or is it really something to be aware of? I know that I don't want to be sitting in my car for a minute or two after driving or can always say I'd be aware of the it and 'candy ***' drive the last few miles of my trips. What are everyones views on this?

Default I think it'd be cool but...

...I figured it was a bit too much risk (especially to explain to my parents) to install given that during those 2-3 min, someone could crack a window, hop in my car and drive off.. Unlikely, I know, but it's mostly a peace of mind thing. I still might do it sometime down the line, but I found a boost gauge to be a better investment. I never mind driving a little softer from time to time, and I just make sure my boost doesn't get much above 0 for the last 1-2 min of my drive (NOT "the last few miles", it really isn't that much time at all), and I'm pretty convinced it's a lot better to cool the turbo while driving around and getting air through the system than it is to cool it with a TT while letting the car sit stagnant. Either way, one or the other is a great thing to have. Good luck!!

Default You'd actually be surprised...

...how seldom your car pushes any boost. The key is not how high you rev the engine but how fast you push it to a high-rev position, that is, how hard you push the pedal. Usually, at least for me, the last few mins of driving are on residential streets, not like the freeway, where accelerating fast isn't a big issue, so I just make sure I'm not pushing any more than 2-3psi of boost, which isn't that hard at all. You should find out if anyone in your area from AW has an A4 with a boost gauge, and see if they'll let you ride along to see how easy it is to use no boost. Let me know if you have further questions.

Default My buddy smoked his hybrid turbo...Get a turbo timer, or atleast let the car cool before...

shutting the engine off. I saw, first hand, all of the coking and caking of the oil on the turbo. Not a pretty site. This can be prevented with proper cooling. Especially on the K03's 'cause those things get red to white hot when pushed hard.
