Linking Multiple Changers?
p.s yes i want 16 cds at my fingertips....
The changers were connected together via a daisy chain that terminated at the head unit. The headunit let you select first the magazine number and then the disc number. So you could daisy chain six changers for a total of 36 CDs. Though you had to have six, old school big sized changers in your trunk. JVC also had an 18 disc changer that was basically three 6-discs stacked in one box. Three magazines and everything. This worked in a similar manner, and even these could be daisy chained, giving you a total of 6 X 18 or 108 discs. You'd need a minivan for all those changers.
Of course now they have a 12 disc changer that's half the size of my 6-disc so that technology is sorta vestigal.
I doubt you'll be able to do that with the Panasonic headunit and changers. I don't think they have the provisions for multiple changers on the same bus like the old JVCs did. You might be able to do something with a relay and manually switch from one changer to the other that way, perhaps splice two changer cables into the headunit through the relay and have a switch in the cabin to change between the two, but it wouldn't be nearly as well integrated as what you're probably after. Some people have described doing something similar (one changer and one additional source, usually an MP3 player) on the CD Changer input, where they use a relay to switch between the sources. You might want to check around on the Audio forum for people that have done this.
Myself, I'm going to be building an MP3 player into the CD-Changer cubby and using an adapter from Blitzsafe to give me the RCA inputs to the CD-Changer input that I need. Bout 20 gigs of storage should do pretty well I figure. Should be fun, though I'm an engineer and as such I have a wacked definition of what constitutes "fun."
