Default Long Drives & Comfort

How comfortable is the A4 on long drives, like driving across the country for 10 hours a day?

We pick up our 2001 A4 1.8t today!

Default I have the sport package, and I do 4-6 hr drives every weekend in the winter...

to go snowboarding.

I have upgraded my sway bars (making it even stiffer) and I still think the car is extremely comfortable.

If you REALLY want comfortable, get the non-sport package, but IMHO the handling ain't worthy of the four rings. Feels like a cadillac.

Default I guess it depends on what you are used to...

I've never been a fan of boulevard barge luxo cruisers but I really got tired of getting beaten to death on long interstate hauls in my Integra. Enter the A4... man, it exceeded my expectations on the highway... I run 80 to 85 mph on the highway and the car is rock solid stable. It's nice having a car that handles that you don't have to constantly dial in corrections everyt time you hit an expansion strip or bump in the highway. I suspect you are going to like your car if you have a dealer that can properly support it.

Default It really shines there

I've done numerous 10+ hour drives in the A4 and it's absolutely great. I go straight through stopping only for gas and feel pretty darn good at the end for being on the road that long.

One thing though. The comfort seats take some time to break in and if you do a long drive before they are broken in you'll feel it, especially in your lower back.

Default The stock seats gave me back pain

I've never had any back problems in my life but after an hour in the stock A4 seats I'm ready for the chiropractor.

I've since replaced the stock seats with Recaros.
