Default looking for advice on upgrading...

i have an 1989 90 and i want to upgrade.
i am looking at a 96 A4 quattro 5-speed that needs water pump, oxygen sensors, and a power window motor
the guy is asking $3500
is this a good deal? or are these repairs too much?
any advice would be appreciated, thanks

Default How many miles does it have? It sounds like a good deal if the mileage is somewhat decent.

Does he have all the maintenance records? Be sure to check up on that because these A4's can get pricey maintenance wise... especially if you don't know how to do your own work (like me).

mileage is around 150K
and i'm not sure about the maintence records, i'll look into that
are the water pump and o2 sensor jobs extremely involved or is it something i could do with my mechanic friend's know-how and lift?

Default without maint records, I'd do a T-belt job on it anyway.

including water pump, t-stat rollers and belts. Either way, you'll have to remove the bumper & front of the car (you may be able to do the job in service position... I did on my '99). The job isn't bad and all the answers an guidence would be here in this forum. O2s are fairly easy to get to on my 99 but are expensive.

Default both the timing belt and waterpump job go hand and hand... in other words, if your

replacing one, you should go ahead and replace the other... there is really not much extra work involved once you're in there, A lift isn't really necessary other than convenience working at eye level and draining your fluids.
Is this job hard? depends on what you consider hard. I'd say it's a bit of a PITA as far as all the stuff that you have to do just to get in there.

Default 02 sensors are just a PITA to get to.

at least the bottom one.

Waterpump shouldnt be too hard as long as your are a hands on type of guy.

But you should be expecting to do a big maitenance check.
-Flush/probably new fluids...all of them
-CA(control arms) and TRE's(tie rode ends) if they were not done at 100. They will have some wear on them.
-Check out the brakes too.
-New filters...fuel, air, cabin, oil...
-Things like that.

Try and get some receipts from the guy and see what he has and has not done.

Maybe even a new oil pump too just to be safe.
