I have a pal at work and we have a parking agreement. I back in and he pulls forward. We park side by side and protect each other's cars.
He parks on my passenger's side. The car to my left, usually having only a driver, opens his door on the far side of his car.

Check with your city/town. There should be a code that states the width of the parking spots.
