Default Maybe buying a B5 A4 2.8-Need Opinions

I'm a newb here, first post, member at PassatWorld. I'm looking into buying an '98 A4 2.8 w/Tip that only has 75K miles and looks very clean, has had the TB/WP service recently. I know of some of the common problems of the V6 in the Passat but I'm wondering if there are any issues to look for that are common with the Audi B5? I currently own a 2002 Passat 1.8T and love the car but I've been wanting an Audi, this is in my price range.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I perused thru the FAQ but I didn't see much that actually was for the 2.8L.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Default There isn't much on the 2.8 because. . .

There isn't much you can do to mod it except supercharge (the 30V)

and

it's generally considered much more reliable than the 1.8 and in some ways (oil pan removal) easier to work on.

Default and you won't find much.....

it's a very solid car. Like A4SilverT said, you can't do to much to mod it performance wise, but if you are looking for a great daily driver, then you have found it my friend. I have owned one for about a year (still a noob here)and have been very happy with it. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

Also you can reply in the subject line, it's alot easier to read that way.

Yeah, same for the V6 passat, but I'm not looking to mod other than maybe a slight drop. I haven't touched my B5.5 with mods other than a Euroswitch. It's been a reliable car till recently, hence why I'm looking at the A4. I've always liked these cars and I feel I'd be getting an excellent deal with the one I'm looking at.

Just hoping I can get true owner opinions here at AW.

Default In the 48k miles that I've owned my 99,5...

I must say that I've enjoyed it (though I'v yet to satiate my craving for more hp/tq). So far, I've done the timing belt/WP, etc, TRE's, one wheel bearing, and ABS module reman, and drivers window guide, but then again I guess this is regular maintenance for this car with 86k on it. Good luck with your purchase.
-Cheers
