Mintex Front Brake Pads-install w/ pics
brake wear sensor went off a while ago so I finally got around to replacing pads. Ordered Mintex from Purems.com
I wanted to retain the wear sensors and keep it stock.
here's the writeup!
-flathead to remove plastic plugs
-use flathead to remove outer retaining spring
-Use a 45 6pt socket to release 2 caliper bolts
<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3451/3192306792_e056468fc1.jpg" alt="45 6pt socket" /></a>
-brake wear sensor is a TWIST LOCK to remove from metal bracket. Squeeze plug tag to disconnect
<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3523/3191459247_545fcc4ea9.jpg" alt="brake wear sensors" /></a>
-OPEN BRAKE RESIVOIR before you squeeze the piston in
-use a socket and c-clamp to squeeze piston in
<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3090/3191458913_48926f270c.jpg" alt="compress piston" /></a>
-install inner brake pad. pay attention to wear sensor wire routing
<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3420/3192305656_63cb136f56.jpg" alt="inside pad" /></a>
old vs. new pads
<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3118/3191456727_dbed1c4bca.jpg" alt="old vs. new pads" /></a>
-peel the sticker on the outer pad
-slide caliper on and tighten bolts
<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3126/3191458111_58fbd6c32c.jpg" alt="outside pad" /></a>
-pointing to the brake wear sensor. route carefully to avoid binding the ABS wires. plug in
<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3483/3192304912_e0963f993f.jpg" alt="careful routing wear sensor & ABS wire" /></a>
-install spring retainer. do the other side
<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3396/3191457367_ee5d681fe9.jpg" alt="install retaining spring" /></a>
notes-
once again, I would like to say how much the lugbolt design sucks.
-futzing w/ the spring retainer is was surprisingly annoying.
-it's a simple maint item and i like the wear sensor, good for a daily driver.
-clean everything w/ brake cleaner before you pop the wheel on
-don't touch the brake pads contact surface
-use a strap or something to hold the caliper so you don't accidentally break the abs line or stretch the brake line

Yep, but if you have one of those cheap Harbor Freight brake bleeder kits,
<center><img src="http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/37200-37299/37201.gif"></center><p>you could hook up the tubing to the bleeder, and catch it in the cup.

That's exactly what I use.
The fluid that comes out of the caliper is usually pretty nasty, I don't like the idea of pushing it upstream into the ABS pump and master cylinder.
