Default modded audi

Please don't criricize me too sharply, but am am not fixed on an audi yey; I am also considering a BMW or saab. I am leaning twoards an audi now, though. Although I'd appreciate posts to links comparing an a4 to a 3 series or a6 to a 5 series. Looks like audi is up one in each comparison. ( get it ? )

But, to the point, I am going to look at a heavily modofied '98 a4. 220hp: custom exhaust/chip, lowering springs, huge rims, custom body panels, special mirrors, and a custom paint job(prealescent coal). Whew! Supposedly has 8K miles. Asking price is 24K. This is the SECOND owner selling it.

Now, I'm sure it looks sharp, but alarm bells are going off for me. 8K miles? All these mods? It makes me wonder if the car doesn't work right. I do need a reliable ride, as I really only have room to keep one car.

So, is there anything special I should look at? It's either a steal, or someone stealing. Sooooo hard to tell. Of course, i'd need to see records of all the mods. Anything else?

Default DING DING DING DING DING DING DING ....

8K miles, already on its second driver with lots of mods? The old warning bells are just wailing right now.

I'd be very wary about that buy. At the very least, make sure you get it into a shop before hand to do a *really* thorough check. Also, although not being listed here doesn't guarantee a clean record, use some of the net resources like www.carfax.com to check on past recorded damage, accidents, etc.

For all you know, maybe that "custom paint job" was part of the cleanup work from a major accident.

Doug (always the pesimist worry wart )

Default Re: modded audi

Looked hard at the 323i before the Audi but there really isnt a comparison. The 323 is more money! More money for the same car as an A4. The breaking point was when I started to realize the mods that you could do to the Audi. Watch out Bimmers!!!!<p>2000 1.8t QM
