Default More on timing belt - yesterday I posted, and someone suggested this: (ECS)

On this page (see link below) I find:

1) ECS Tuning Ultimate Timing Belt Kit- Early VIN AWM engine codes
Fits up to VIN #8d 1 042 384 on AMW engine codes, Split is in model year 2001.

2) ECS Tuning Ultimate Timing Belt Kit- Late VIN AWM engine codes
Fits from VIN #8d 1 042 385 on AMW engine codes, Split is in model year 2001.

How do I know which one I need - I just check my VIN? And - is the timing belt OEM or better? The other part are listed as being OEM.

My VIN ends in 8D41A001117 - the numbers don't really match up? I have a 2001 (2001.5).

THANKS!!!

you will most likely have the late model kit, but call ECS and have them verify.

Default What about the quality of the non "OEM" parts like the actual belt

better than OEM? I would imagine ECS = teh good stuff, but don't want to end up frying my engine b/c I used non-OEM parts and then have a problem.

Default You have a early Vin....

the key is to confirm that you have a 2001 & then use the last 6 digits of you vin (001117).

Timing belt on that certain kit the belt brand is Gates

Default Depends....

on what the our vendors have when we order. We normally like to stick with trusted brands as inayco, Conti, OEM, Gates ect... but it's impossible to say it's for sure going to be one or the other all the time. I can say it will be a high quality belt at all times. (Conti, Gates OEM are used 99% of the time)
