Default MY 00 1.8T Tiptronic/Auto question - kick-down range

The MY 00 with DBW throttle has a very distinct kick-down range in the throttle.

Has anyone experienced better acceleration (from a standing start) when pushing the throttle all the way to the bottom (i.e. through the kick-down) versus just pushing it to the start of the kick-down? Where do you consider WOT to be?<p>'00 1.8TQS Tip, no chip (yet...)

Default When you push thru kick-down, you lose the ability to manually Tip shift.

In the kickdown range, the engine will go to redline before auto-shift. Frankly, pretty annoying. If you get a chance on the freeway sometime... stick 5th in Tip mode and then punch it thru kickdown... the shifter automagically dumps you to 3rd and you can't Tip out unless you let off the throttle. Oh well. Some engineer figured if you punched it in 5th you are wanting to go... so they max out the RPM range for ya. =)

If I'm not mistaken, WOT on the DBW cars is actually somewhere at less than full throttle pedal travel... I think Brett@APR or some other tuner posted about this somewhere. My memory fails me. Sorry.

Cheers!<p>-eric

Default Re: When you push thru kick-down, you lose the ability to manually Tip shift.

Thanks...I'll "play around" with it. I'm curious what it will do from a standing start - will disable Tip in 1st gear as well?<p>'00 1.8TQS Tip, no chip (yet...)

Default tried it, but I could still shift, even on full kick-down throttle (tip response was slow though)

Default Interesting. I'll have to revisit the standing start WOT later.

I don't do jackrabbit starts too often, but I've been just going to the first stop (non-kickdown) when trying to waste gas. =)

I don't remember being able to shift after tripping the kick-down.<p>-eric
