My battery voltage gauge is at 3/4 and stays at that from start to finish. (It's at the 14 marker, 12 is the middle, and 16 is the max). Is this normal? Is it something I should get checked out? What could it be? I was not running the AC, just the radio. Any info about this would be great. I just got the car a few days ago. It is a 2000 1.8TQ

14 volts is the output of the alternator, it is normal.

Default Normal

As Kris said the voltage from the alternator is 14+ volts - which it needs to be to keep the battery charged at 12 volts (there needs to be a voltage difference in order to have electron flow.)

So, if it drops to ~12V (w/out any AC, etc.) , is the Timing Belt "slipping"?

Default Not the timing belt, and likely not the accessory belt, the fan puts big drain on the battery,

as do the lights and such. If it goes below 12v, you may have a problem with your alternator.

Accessory belt drives the alternator - not the timing belt.
