My boost gauge plans this weekend and next. (LONG)
I've looked at many of the gauges out there VDO, Autometer, SPI, Greddy...
and decided on a Black faced Greddy 60mm electronic gauge. before you flame me... why you say?
Here is their lineup of gauges:

This is one close up but with a white face:
<img src="http://pictureposter.t.audiworld.com/6955/ak_gauge2.jpg">
1. I think it looks the cleanest yet uncluttered.
2. I wanted a electronic version so that I don't have to run a vacuum line into the cabin, or have to deal with gauge "buzz"
3. The electronic pressure sensor is solidstate, and should have no questionable pressure lost compared to the volume of air added from a vacuum line.
My install plans:
Take the center vent off and mount the gauge inside with a wooden back plate spray painted black. This makes everything black and anti-reflective for high contrast when the gauge is lit.
The gauge will be gutted and high intensity LEDs will replace the stock colored bulbs. The color with the red LEDs will be consistent with the rest of the dash. The reason brigher bulbs are needed for my install is that there will be a 2mm curved smoked plexiglass in place of the vent and it will contour nicely with either vents on each side.
The smoked plexiglass along with the black face gauge will make it hard to see through my install. That's good, stealth install like my turbo timer. I will have a switch that i can turn on or off to allow the LEDs to lite up the needle and marks like so: (but brighter red instead of amber or green like shown)

ok, i'll give an update later. questions? comments?

I was toying of the idea of the plexi, and also considered
choping my stock vent to make a fake cover, just like my stereo. Still undecided. I just want to make sure the smoked plexi isn't too dark - want visibility during the day.
That's a very classy gauge - if you get flammed, they have problems

LOL! thx. that's why i have to test out the level of the backlighting.
I was also thinking of taking the vent cover, demeling all the fins and mounting the gauge in there to retaining the swivel motions up and down (i dunno why except to make it even more stock looking) and then put a curved plexi.
your fake cover idea would look nice! anything stealth, i like.

SScott did a very good job. I want mine to be absolutely black unless the
inside is lit not only by the upgraded LEDs but by possibly lighting around the gauge to light up the black enclosure. this should force enough light through the tint in the plexi.
we'll see... i'm just thinking how to do it before i do it.
