My Cam chain tensioner is making more noises more frequently. It has a loud chatter pretty much
everytime i start the car. Additionally, now on a warm engine it sometimes dies on me when I try to start it.
Its only happened a couple times where I crank it, and feels like its got no juice to it, and the motor dies. If I give it some gas though then it starts ok.
Do I need to change the cct urgently? If I change it, will i experience the same problems again down the road?
I have about 80k miles on my 01 1.8t

I don't think the 2 issues are related.
For some reason the CT relaxes a tiny bit when they get old. There shouldn't be any other side effect besides the noise. I replaced my CCT a while ago at around 50K because I couldn't stand it.

2nd, I just changed one on an '01 1.8t this past weekend, chunk of plastic missing, and grooves in
the metal support and the head. I haven't DL'd the pics. The bearing housing on #4 intake side had some scoring. Plastic or shards of metal might have gotten to it. His starting problems might have been caused by it, didn't fix it. I think the chain had too much slack in it and screwed up the mixture and exhaust. Since it didn't fix it, I think a valve could have been hit if the chain had enough slack. I have no idea, just guessing. I say change it right away and pray.
