n00b question...

i have a 00 1.8tqm and i noticed that if the car sits all night, or for a long duration it will make an electronic winding noise. its not high pitched, but its definitly noticeable. it goes on for about a minute then the rpm drops to normal idle. other than that it never winds. i know that the car recalibrates and what not, but should it be that loud?

what's loud? normal, but shouldn't be 'loud'..

i dont know whats making the noise. i havent...

really checked into it. it makes a mechanical noise that is constant for like 40 seconds. its only when the car is cold and hasnt been driven in awhile.

i didnt know if its the DBW recalibrating or anything. i was told it does.

where is the sound coming from?

If from the rear it's fuel.

I have the same thing...I asked my dealership to fix it but the never did

they said they did though..said it was an A/C controlling device i think

sounds like its coming from the left side of the engine bay...

in between the intake housing and the engine itself. its only when the car is cold. for example, i left it in the garage all night. i turn the engine on it goes to ~1200rpm with the winding noise then drops to normal idle when the hoise goes away. for the rest of the day after driving it around it will not do this. if i leave it sit 4-6 hours and the engine is cold it will do it again. im going to laurel when they my plates in so i'll ask the service guys, but if its something i should be concerned with maybe i'll go prior to that
