need coolant help ASAP
my coolant level light came on. the manual says i have to use special audi coolant only from the dealer. the service dept closeby is not open today or tomorrow, and it is imperative that it gets fixed before monday morning. Is the any kind of coolant that i can get at an auto parts store like schuck's that wont kill my engine?? TIA

Re: need coolant help ASAP
Very unlikely that you can find anything compatible at your local parts store. If you're just a bit low you can add distilled water to bring it up to the minumum level.
DO NOT add any other type of coolant.
DO NOT add any other type of coolant.

I would stick with the factory G12 coolant.
Check the level in the tank...If you still see fluid, it's probably okay. If you have a major leak, and you don't see fluid, you can top off with distilled water (your local pharmacy should have it)...however do NOT do this if your temps are falling below freezing. The water will dilute the coolant in your system, thereby changing the freezing point. A little dilution won't hurt, but if you dilute the coolant too much, and it freezes, you'll be looking at a cracked block.

agreed, btw: this should be a reminder to everyone to keep a
gallon of VW / Audi Coolant Antifreeze (Part No. G 012 A8FA4) laying around your domicile. better yet, keep all needed audi specific fluids, just in case.
