Need ECU recoding expert

I have gotten a bunch of differing opinions. I know its a long shot, but has anyone recoded a CH box from a Quattro manual to a FrontTrak Tip? I've heard many say they've switched between FrontTrak and Quattro or between Tip and manual, but not obht. Also, I've heard that it was easily doable pre-2000, but they're not sure about 2000+. Anyone with prior experience?

I'd call up GIAC or APR and get the news.

Of couse...*I* would call APR first ;-)

Try this

With the VAG tool hooked up, read the soft code from the existing ECU (and write it down). Swap out unit and replace with one to recode. Change code to what was on old ECU. Did it accept the code? Start and drive around to see that all is good!

That should do it!

No luck

Maybe I should have had you call. APR said no worky! Maybe it's because they want me to buy the chip new from them, instead of used. I guess that means I keep waiting for a FrontTrak Tip APR with ECU, or I suck up the 3 days of downtime and send off my ECU!

BTW, how was Sat night? Good turnout? I tried to lure the wife to drive past there on our "date night", but no such luck!

It works

Just a final note to complete this thread. I found many people who said it was not possible to switch the soft code to make an ECU from a manual Quattro work in a FWD TIP. The naysayers included a couple of reps from GIAC, APR and Ross-Tech. But it worked great, and I'm glad because I was able to do the upgrade with no downtime. So if anyone else is searching for this in the future...it works just fine on the CH box from a 2001.5!
