Need help with ECU
I have a 1998 A4q 1.8t and I think the ECU is bad; I would like to try a good one but don't know anyone with my type off car. If you are in the Naperville Il. (west Chicago) area and would help me out I will return the favor (I do all kinds of work on Audis and VWs) ; I have helped a dozen guys with thier timomg belts on these forums. JIM

Why do I think it is bad:
1.Cannot scan UCU / ecu not powering up
2. Bat is 12v and good
3. 12V to both power pins of ECU
4. No CEL when ign powered up.
5. Car cranks fine will not start,
6. Fuel pump and relay good.
7. no after market wiring and I have an OEM radio
Any ideas? I would like to try a known good ECU at this point or I will think about buying a used one. JIM

I think i have the same problem.
Bought a fresh water damaged audi a4 1999 1.8Turbo recently as a project to work on....
the symptoms i have is that the immobiliser light is on...no check engine light....presumably because it cant talk to the ECU. And obviously the car doesnt start.
Can't connect to the ECU via the diagnostics port....
I opened up the ECU and there was a little corrosion....so i have ringing around to try and get some prices on a replacement....
