Default New to Audi, shopping around. Question about reliability and turbo kits.

So, I'm a dad, a 4 door AWD saloon fit's my needs perfectly...more perfectly then the Benz 190E 2.3 16v Cosworth I currently have. Anyways, on topic:
I've found a seemingly nice 97 1.8t Quatro. What are the ususal costs-of-ownership on these cars? Every car has a list of things that will go wrong, what are they for these?

Also, a snag; this one has been tinkered with. Can anyone attest to the reputation of this shop (ECS/APR development), and the effects of the added stress from this big GT28 RS?

It's going to be a "daily driver", though it won't be driven daily. I'm within walking distance of the things I need, this will need to travel maybe 80mi a week. Should I pounce, or find another Auto Union?

ECS/APR development program car
This car was upgraded by ECS tuning in Northeast Ohio owned, maintained and modified by them. This car has had many useful upgrades that make it a real scream in every respect.

Details

This car has a MONSTER GT28 RS turbo, custom exhuast and downpipe, intake, diverter valve, hoses, S4 alloys, and much more. The car is also fitted with heated seats, a column mounted boost guage and is finished in silver. As it is this car is a real sleeper and at this price is an absolute STEAL !!!

Default Pics of Benz please :-)

I love those models. I learned to drive stick on a 190 back in high school.

Anyway, cost of ownership should be about the same as your Benz. Figure an average of around $800 a year; much less if you do ALL the work yourself, much more if you can't do any. Some years will be more, some less. Read the FAQ link at the top of the page. Good luck!

Default Re: Pics of Benz please :-)

$800/year? Dunno what you've heard about 80's benz's, but that about 4-6 times what I've observed, and my car is considered costly for its generation. Newer model Benz's are absolute crap, but if you look at cars from 93/93 and older, they simply never die.

On that note, the 16v is for sale if you want it. lol

Default not sure the GT28RS software from APR was ever completed

Default Pretty!

I have always loved the shape of those older Benzes. I'm not familiar with the running costs, so I guess I was a little off there. It really depends how much you can/are willing to do yourself. I do about 75% myself and have an indy shop do about 25% of it. This quote is from personal experience in 3.5 years of ownership.

Default if you look at our FAQ, there is some common trouble points addressed:

that being said, if you are anything much a wrench you can easily get through routine maintenance with the help of the writeups on the FAQ.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2299748.phtml

Default Are you sure it isn't an APR GT28R turbo kit? if so, that's a nice find. If it is the RS, then

I'd be curious what software it is running.

is it still running stock suspension and brakes?

common problems are listed in the B5 FAQs at the link at the top of this forum, along with a lot of other great info.
