Default New car advice: what for the GF?

The GF is looking for a new car. she currently has an Avalanche (bleh.) and is looking for a sedan instead. Here is our current shortlist:

Audi A4
Volvo S40
Saab 9-3
Subaru Legacy
Volkswagen Passat 4motion

She's looking for something in the 25-35 range (new car) and she's in maine in the winter, so good snow handling is key. I, of course, support the B6 A4 avant because they are gorgeous (though I don't like the sedans...) what other reccomendations do you have? She doesn't need speed or track level handling. Obviously the legacy is a bit below the other cars in terms of quality, but she is a big fan of scooby's and the '05 legacy looks hot.

Drove one yesterday at a Saab event vs. a bunch of competitors. Definitely not worth the cash.

I'm not sure why Subaru can't make the thing look good. Saab was able to do it in no time at all.

Default Subaru with the 2.5 turbo in it.

In stock form the performance numbers are about the same as the 2.7t. Several mechanics I've talked to all say the reliability of the Subaru is outstanding. I'm seriously considering ditching Audi and going for the new Outback with the 2.5t motor. Nice fresh design inside and out. 250hp stock with 258lb-ft torque and 3200 lbs. (I've been consdiering a used allroad and the numbers are the same except the allroad is 600+ lbs heavier.)
