Default New to forum. Need 1.8 and 2.8 camparison with minor mods (ty)

Can't decide between 1.8T and 2.8. Everyone keeps telling me to get the 1.8 and modify it but I don't think it will ever give me the feel of a six cylinder engine (which I love). I am thinking about getting a 2.8, chip, exaust, air filter, and rims. Would anybody really rather have a 1,8 than that?

Default chipped 2.8 -> ~205HP / Chipped 1.8T -> ~195HP, and 2.8 is still ~$5K more

It really boils down to personal preference. But the mere fact that you say you want to chip and add exhaust, etc, says you are not thinking of getting a 2.8 and leaving it alone. The people who think that way are more on the edge. If you want more than the ~205 with the 2.8, the next step is the super charger (280HP) for something like $4K. 1.8T upgrades are more plentiful and gradual. Starting at 150, you can 0.8bar chip it to ~180, or 1bar chip it to ~195 and an exhaust ~210. Or you can move to a slightly larger turbo and achieve 225-250HP. Adjust a manifold or the like and step to APR's Stage 3, 300HP. I believe the cost of the stage 3 is similar (maybe a little more) to the 2.8 Supercharger, but you are still saving the $5K that you didn't give Audi for the 2.8. I also like the fuel consumption of the 1.8T - you have the economy of the 4-cyl, but the power of the turbo when you push it.

Check out my more in depth write-up on my website:

A little of both. Keep in mind I'm in CO @7000 ft above sea level.

Default My only prob is the 4cyl. In here in CO the 1.8T might be better choice.

The link to your site is not working. I'll check it later.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not to max it out and slam it to the ground or anything. I just like the sound and the little extra power of an air filter and exahuast. The chip I would consider if the price was right. That's about it though. No headers, throttle body, etc. Just a car that is fun to drive and has a bunch of power. To lease the car is actualy about the same for 1.8 and 2.8 because 2.8 holds better resale. A friend of mine has a 1.8T and I have driven it. I don't really like the feel of a 4 cylider engine (I think I have made that clear by now). Going to drive 2.8 again tommorow. I'll let you know my impressions (if you're intrested)
