Default New Rims and Tires?

Hey guys so I have a 1996 audi a4 with the factory (I believe 16'' wheels) and one of the tires is bad, which means I have to buy two new ones, I looked at Sears, cheapest I could find with installation was $250. So I decided I could just buy used, so I am looking at Craigslist for tires and rims, I found 17 inch tires and rims (nice rims) with 85% tread left for $200. The only problem is that they are 17 inch and I have 16 inch. Would they fit with no mods? the bolt pattern is the same 5x112. Also they are 225 45 R17... I get the 17 means 17 inches, but what do the other two numbers mean, sorry if this is a noob question, I am just wondering, if this works out it would be great. Thank you!

If this a quattro you need to match the tires on all four rims. You need the same tread depth on all 4, within reason.

17 inch rims were fitted to both the A4 and S4 in later years so they will fit if they are Audi rims.

17 inch rims off of the later B6 A4 Audi will also fit. The offset of the rims is also important.Something like ET-35 for an A4 /S4

I think you can use 225-45 R17 or 235-40 R17.

Use tire-racks configuration tool to figure out what you need, you have to necessarily buy from them.

Thanks, I actually found a really good website for it http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp I actually thought it was really cool, it also tells you what rims will fit your car, it says they will fit my car, and it is Quattro, I hope that doesn't matter too much
