Default New Spark Plugs

I searched for some vague terms, but couldn't find anything similar to what I've experienced today. I changed my spark plugs (85k miles, I bought it at 48k). I'm not sure if they were done at the regular interval before, but they look pretty bad. New plugs are bosch platinum 4's.

Anyhow, after I put everything back in I get an EPC light when turning the ignition switch to ON. Then when the car is started, it goes off. However, after running it a minute, then turning it back off then to ON, it glows EPC again. Also, there's a high pitched tone that's constant when in ON position.

I had the plugs above the airbox (MAF?) unplugged for about 2 hours (took stuff apart, let heads cool down).

Any idea what I've done?

Also, pictures of the old plugs here:

Default They were pregapped, and I did them one at a time...

So I doubt either of those things. However, the gap is still a possibility I guess. The car seems to run fine.

Did you torque them properly, and use dielectric grease on the top of the plugs?

Default Torqued properly, I did not add anything to the plugs

Never heard of that.

Default Update: High pitched tone went away

I went back to the garage about an hour later, and the high pitched noise does not happen anymore. I'm guessing it was just due to being unplugged.

Drove the car around, everything seems fine. The EPC still comes on when I put the switch to "ON", but it goes off after starting the engine. I don't recall whether it normally comes on, although obviously I know the Brake, Battery, etc lights come on... but those are on the speedometer, this EPC light is on the tachometer.

Can someone confirm that the EPC is also a dummy/check light that is supposed to come on?

Quite common, a little dab of grease on the plug, makes a better contact with wire
