Newbie question: what's up with the S4 wheel well liners? Why do people install them?

Only do driver side though, that's where the intercooler is.

Default I'm going to do the passenger side, too...
Just in case. Seems like it could help air flow on that side of the engine, too. Especially since the turbo and such are right down there in that area.

Default That's what I did at first, but...
You have to drill a lot of holes to get the same airflow that the vented liners provide. (They are very open.) What I started noticing after a while was that the intercooler was starting to get quite dirty from muck flying off the wheel into the holes during the rain or on dirty roads, since the IC is right up next to the liner. The vented liners have specially directed vents that prevent stuff from flying off the wheel in through the liner.
