I'm having the same problem. did an oil change last week, not hearing clicking/clunking noise when..
I accelerate. Someone told me it was a bad catalytic converter. If its the same on you're then you might still be covered under warranty

Possible solution...
My car does that too - only when it's already warm/hot and especially when it's been idling or driven at slow speed for more than 5-10 minutes (like in traffic or drive-thru).
I'm sure my problem is the oil pump and probably because the oil pick-up screen is getting clogged.
Last time I changed my oil, I sprayed a cleaner on the oil pick-up screen and flushed it w/ dino oil, then put in M1. The car no longer had valve ticking at all.
Now that I have about 4k miles on that M1 oil change, the valves are starting to tick again. This time I'm going to clean the screen again, but also use an engine cleaner w/ dino oil to flush, then use the regular M1.

you might also get it right as you start the car... it sounds like a diesel for a couple seconds. I just replaced it on my car a month or so back at 70K.
My search results found it to be most common on the '01s due to the swith over to VVT
