Is it normal for AC to shut off when engine is hot?
I was stuck in gridlock and had the AC running. The water temp gauge went up to the first notch beyond center. Then the AC did not seem nearly as cool and eventually went warm. I didn't notice if the snowflake turned off or not. I turned off the AC, turned on the heat to bleed the heat from the engine and didn't turn the AC back on until I was moving. It worked just as well as normal.
Was this temporary loss of AC normal? Is there something else I should do to prevent this?
