Default Now that I drained what I think is the trans fluid ....

Don't ask .. it's done, now I have to refill it. Anyone point me to what fluid specs I need to get and the procedures to refill it. (98 1.8TQTip)

The line to abuse me forms to the right (well deserved)

Default slushbox thanks ...

a simple oil change turns out to be $$. I made a mistake and thought the pan (not hidden by the plastic ground effects) with the hex plug was the oil pan and drained it. I noticed that it only had about a quart or two and realized I was f****d. Just wanted to verify that there isn't any other way I could remedy this without limping over to the dealer. Thanks again.

Default Per the Bentley's

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/19399/trans_plug.jpg"></center><p>Special tools and equipment

17 mm wrench insert hex socket or

3357 triple square socket driver
Notes:

The oil filler plug is on the left of the transmission below the speedometer vehicle speed sensor and may be concealed by the heat shield for the drive axle.

Depending on the version installed, use either 3357 triple square socket driver or a 17 mm to loosen the oil filler plug.

Use 3357 triple square socket driver to loosen the oil drain plug.

- To check oil level, remove oil filler plug (arrow).

Specification: Oil level up to bottom of filler hole

- Top off transmission oil if necessary.

Specification page 00-3

- Install oil filler plug.

Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

Default How to do it on a manual atleast..........

Drain trans oil and plug up when empty
Open filler valve
Get some fishing tank tubing
Stick it in fill hole
Run to top of engine bay
Have friend with a funnel start pouring fluid
Should take 2.9 QT maybe a bit more

Default Ouch you made an expensive mistake! ........

WARNING! you must use only audi/vw automatic tranny fluid in your transmission! The stuff ain't cheap either, I just bought some for my S4, its about 19 bucks a quart! BTW you can do it yourself but you'll need something that can pump fluid up a tube. The filler is a goofy design were u remove a cover on the pan and stick a tube up into it and back down into the pan. think of it like a flexible straw. You could do it yourself if you wanted to, but you'll have to fill it until it starts oozing out from the filler, then drive it a little bit and recheck, The tranny is supposed to be at operating temp when you check it as well i believe?, check your bentley for info on that. Good luck and bummer about draining it, you'll probably need at least 3 bottles.
