OH NO!

OH NO!
I bought a '99 A4 with 75K on it. They kept encouraging me to change the timing belt. I figured I'd wait until the end of the summer. Now the check engine light came on and it's flashing. The car still runs just rough. Feels like it's missing a cylinder. Could it still run if it is the timing belt? Thanks guys.

Our cars are inteference engines. If the timing belt goes, your head is trashed.
However, you are playing with a loaded gun. Get it replaced now. Sounds like you might have a misfire situation.

I think the warning in the owners manual says stop driving if it flashes.
If it's the timing belt the car would not even run, you got some kind of ignition problem however you must really like to gamble if you are waiting on that belt.
