Oil just started spewing out from underneath...

So I walk out to my 96 A4 quattro and there is a 10 foot stream of oil on the concrete. Is it common for an oil pan gasket to just disintegrate?

Not likely, you need to find out where it's coming from.

check oil lines and filter.

Oil cooler itself or the gasket on the base of the filter.

It's not uncommon for the nut holding the oil cooler in place to back out over time.

Particularly right after an oil change. You'll have to remove the oil filter to get at it...I think you'll need a 28mm socket to secure that nut. Not too much torque...about 30 ft-lbs should take care of it.

First get under there and find out where the oil is coming from. You're making assumptions right now, which doesn't help.
