OK you guys I need some serious input for a silly problem.
I have a 1.8t qms non-chipped. I had the sport tires swapped with a non sport 2.8 on the lot. Since then I have thought about trading the contis for all season uhp -sp5000-. With my trade they would give me about 125 bucks for the contis with 3K miles on them. reason i want to trade in the contis is because i can't afford the full 500 plus for the sp5000's in 225-50-16 size. should i just wait until the contis wear out before i can experience the uhp all seasons or should i just go for it?
i've thought about this for weeks.

Do you find the handling wanting with the Continentals?
If not, just wait...they'll wear out, by then the SP5000's will probably drop in price a bit. If you find you need more grip (are you breaking them free or at least squealing them a lot on of ramps etc.), then go for it...otherwise I would say wait. One of the downsides to this forum is that it can get you thinking about spending money and making changes that you may not really NEED.<p>Regards,
Rodney

Your Contis might not wear out for a while...
These tires last. After 26,000 miles my OEM Contis still have 8/32 measured tread depth out of an original 10/32.
According to Continental, the tires would be considered due for replacement at 3/32 or 4/32 tread depth. So, assuming you were conservative (as you should be, especially with all-season tires if you use them in the winter) and replaced them at 4/32, given my experience you might expect the tires to last about 78,000 miles.
On the other hand, Continental also told me that the expected life of the tire is only about 30,000-35,000 miles. The Conti rep seemed impressed by how well mine had held up. So obviously I am getting much better wear out of them than usual, possibly because I don't drive particularly aggressively (although I do put quite a few hard Boston city miles on them).
