Well 1st off all higher quality diesel fuel needs to be available in the US...which is on the way...
2nd: and more difficult one, is how will premium makers persuade the US public to go out and buy Diesel cars...
I hope it happens for the North American market, but I don't have a good feeling...
I'd have a Audi Avant TDI in a shot as a daily driver...even in my current Passat I can get 600 miles out of a tank and yet have a high torque engine that is pretty fun on the open road...

just keep the gas prices high and theyll bring it. People will
see how great diesel is once they get tired of paying 2-3 dollars per gallon and getting 15-20 mpg.
im going to be crushed if they dont bring it =(

Crappy diesel is still more expensive than pump, good diesel will probably be even more expensive.
So unless for some impossible reason we get good diesel fuel at or close to the price of pump diesels won't really help in the long run.
Gas at 2.50 a gallon w/25mpg
Diesel at 5 a gallon w/50mpg
Same damn thing.

Its different over here...(updated)
Even with the high fuel prices Diesel is still cheaper never mind the economy factor...
88 cent/Litre Diesel
98 cent/litre Petrol
and that would be a Euro Cent...
I think it works out at:
$3.99/Gallon for Diesel
$4.45/Gallon for Petrol
