Opinions needed for an old poster: Sell the B5?
Hi forum, I'm a former poster who hasn't been around for years. Good to see some familiar faces.
I've got a 98.5 1.8T with about 90K miles, pretty well modded. I've been living the downtown city life for the last year and, sadly, it's been sitting in a garage leading a pretty boring existence. However, in the next few months I'm probably going to take a job (offer should come tomorrow, knock on wood) that will require a 45 min - 1 hr commute each way.
So, I'm debating selling the car. It's long out of warranty and I don't know if I want to make it a commuter. I know I won't get much, but I could part it out, sell it and put a down payment on a CPO B6, maybe a 2004 with the 6MT and reasonable miles for something in the low $20Ks. Or something even more practical, but I want AWD since I'll be commuting from Boston to NH.
My current car is fully paid off, so obviously I'll have a payment, but the job should be a solid pay bump so I'll be able to handle it. Or, I could keep my car and deal with potential maintenance w/o any kind of warranty. Of course, I've already started looking at B6 mods so that is dangerous as well. And my K04 could be transferred to the B6 1.8T (I think, haven't looked into it much), so it could be a slippery slope.
I'm curious to hear general opinions from the peanut gallery.

Julian!!! How the heck are you? I was thinking of you the other day...
thinking of all the peeps who have been in my garage at one point or another. =)
The B6's are pretty sexy when you mod them right =)
But the old B5 aint shabby either.

Very valid question
Main reason is I currnetly have an unbeatable living situation in downtown Boston, and my gf goes to law school right down the street. But I have been thinking about that as well.

Hey Kris, doing well.
Hope you and your family are doing great as well.
I was a lucky receipient of a ride on the Kris Hansen lift! Good times. Maybe sometime I'll make it up your way again. Glad to see you're still helping people out on this board.
