yup, the tools would need to be removed from the box, you are right about that.

when you decide to come to terms with your problem there are several DIY write ups in the tech section with a list of parts and tools needed for a waterpump and timing belt replacement.

if you dont feel comfortable with the job after reading the diy go rent a focus for 30$ a day and take the audi to a pro next week.

if you ask nice you might be able to find someone in the local fourm willing to guide you in exchage for beer and pizza. thats really all i can tell you.

I'm not uncomfortable with the job per se ...

... it's just bad timing and situation right now. I did the timing belt swap a couple years ago, but I was over at the house with more garage space and tools. It's pretty much the same. And I do have a couple writeups open in other browsers already.

The plan for the rest of today is dig thru many boxes and find the water pump, tools, etc. And I need to determine if I need any sealants, etc.

BTW, I already tried for a car rental early this morning -- Enterprise had nothing, and Advantage won't come out to get me today. Trust me, I'm not whining for the fun of it -- this is very legitimate whining :-)
