Paging Audi Junkie... I have a friend who is having a sludge problem...
this is on an 02 passat with a 1.8t. he ran a bottle of Auto-RX though and noticed an oil pressure problem. so drained that and was fine for a short while. now the low oil pressure is back. Sounds as though he may have sludge in the oil pick up to the pump. What is the BEST qway to clean the sludge out from here so that he can try to avoid dropping the pan?? I have read from your posts before that a cycle of Kero (I think you mean kerosene ?)would do good, but how much and where do you get it. It is safe to run inside a running engine?? Thanks

Sadly, flush or ARX is effective only before sludge is bad or after an engine is cleaned manually.
I can't see any solvent flushes or Auto-Rx do much with a literally clogged engine. All I can do is suggest effective methods to use these techniques. I say solvent flush will soften sludge so ARX can work on it better. This is BEFORE a OP light. I also say ARX is good AFTER a screen and pump job, to clear the rest of the engine. I can't so, "oh, do this and do that and drive it and you will not kill the engine". That should and won't happen. ARX website even says it cannot substitute for mechanical repair. It works, it does. Cut opened filters and cleaned upper engines, better compression etc are real effects, but the sludged 1.8t has horrid sludge and a mild cleaner like ARX will not make it dis appear. One an oil light happens, I wash my hands of it and just say maybe to still use some ARX in the engine after you get it back from the shop.
btw- changing the oil filter triggers the OP light. The better flow of a new filter makes the pressure drop. Common sense is to not drive, get a cleaning and oil pump, run a 10 minute solvent flush with kero or diesel, add a bottle ARX and drive the **** out of it for 5k and the engine is saved.
