Paranoid about my turbo

I've got an early '98 1.8t with 23k miles on it. I'm worried that I'm going to experience the dreaded wastegate rod failure. My car was built in October of '97. What percentage of these early builds experience this problem? Is it alot or a little?

97 Wett 1.8tqm, 52k miles, never had a rod failure. (knock on wood! out of warranty.)

'97 1.8TQMS Wett... 44k miles and 24k with the chip. No turbo failures.
