Performance comparisons with Passat?
If the performance and handling are anywhere close to the Audi A4 2wd, then I'd opt for the Passat (have not test driven Passat yet), becasue of the room that you get, price, and interior comfort/ergonomics was nicer IMHO (was able to jsut sit in one). Please share your opinions?

Re: Performance comparisons with Passat?
When I was shopping and tried both, I thought the performance of the Passat (6 cyl) was fine. But for me and my wife (both short) the seats were quite uncomfortable. I think that the lumbar was too high. The seats in the Audi aren't perfect for us (the Sable's are better!), but they're acceptable.

Re: Performance comparisons with Passat?
The acceleration should be similar, considering that both the A4 and the Passat share the V6 engine with the same HP and Torque rating. This is the also the same engine used for the A6, but this Audi has an additional 10 HP.
Unfortunately, handling is a different story. The VW does not offer a Sport package for the Passat and from my experience, the car exhibits a lot of roll when you hit a curve at high speeds. Additionally, the only size wheel you can get is 15". For the A4, you can purchase a sport package which offers 16" wheels and a better handling suspension.
Of course everything I just mentioned can be subjective. My advice is to test drive both cars and see what you like. You can't go wrong with either car.
BTW, I ended up with the V6 Passat because, to me, it was roomier and the price was right. Although the handling is not the greatest, I will be upgrading the wheels and suspension in the near future which should improve high speed handling.
I hope this helps and good luck in your decision.
Regards,
Steve
98 Passat GLX Manual
