Default Uhhhhhh, care to elaborate?...(more)

The research I've done has shown that a cone kit, an exhaust, and a chip each yield about 10 hp each.

My point was that I only consider the intake worth the cost, since it's the cheapest of the three. I can't imagine blowing $800 for an exhaust that only gets you that much.

It's nice to state your reasons when you flame someone. Go ahead and disagree (I welcome it), but back it up.

Default Those claims are unsubstantiated.....

The Honda guys love to flip through their magazines, adding up all the HP they're getting from their mods, and lo and behold, before they know it they're at 200+ HP with little bolt-ons.

In reality, it doesn't work that way. Most of the claims are bull****. Case in point: Intake. The only way this mod will make power is if it substantially reduces intake charge temperature, or if it unblocks a substantial impediment to airflow. So.........unless it is a ducted cold air kit, it's really not making power using the reduced intake charge temp method. In fact, there's pretty much no chance of this anyway, as the stock box really is a true ducted front entry cold air system.

The other way is to remove a flow restriction - cone air filters CAN do this (indeed I have one right now), but the stock Audi box is a great airbox - it is NOT a restriction to begin with. The only reason I have one on my car is cause it's a turbo, with a chip. Therefore, it is pulling more air than the Audi Engineers originally designed the airbox to be able to flow. Also, since I have an exhaust, if I had not replaced the intake I may have had a bottleneck at the first point in the system. Your naturally aspirated engine doesn't need the additional flow, and in fact, if it was really getting more flow - it would probably be detrimental cause it's sucking hot air.

I'm willing to bet my left nut you're losing power unless your system is a ducted cold air system.

Default It actually is ducted (somewhat).....

in that it retains the stock intake funnel and intake tube which originally fed into the airbox. The intake tube points directly down at the cone, feeding it fresh air. It also incorporates a nice thick heat shield and the stock airbox cover to help keep out hot air. You can put your hand in after a long hard drive and feel a dramatic difference in temp on either side of the heat shield.

I don't have the actual dyno readings (I will soon from both PES and Lltek) but I can tell you from my *** dyno that there is definitely an increase in power. Throttle response is more crisp, and there is definitely more torque in the low rpms.

I agree with you that without a proper heat shield and a method of ducting fresh air to the cone, the cone would just be sucking in hot air, and you'd actually be losing power.

Please don't classify me with the civic jerkoffs. I'm well aware of the bullsh*t out there.
